“ The “Vern” (name derives from the neon sign “Tavern” on which the first two letters have quit working) is the quintessential dive bar but with the carpets shampooed and the odor of spilled beer and cigarette smoke cleaned out. The mirrored and columned oak bar shelves are classic and beautiful. Etched and Stained glass windows add to the sense of era. I, personally, was born and raised in this exact neighborhood and this former dive bar reminds me of everything that I walked past on my daily trek to Buckman Grade School and which truly makes Portland cool. Off street parking immediately adjacent! ”
